Parliamentary Activities

Elected MP (PASOK) for Ioannina in the general elections of 1993, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009.
Vice-Chairman of the Standing Committee on Production and Trade, and member of the Standing Committee on European Affairs.

Political/Social Activities

Deputy Minister for Agriculture since 13-04-2000 to 10-03-2004. Active in the agricultural co-operatives movement during the 1970s. Founding member of PASOK in Ioannina, 1974, and sat on the Movement’s Prefectural Committee for many years. Member of the PASOK Central Committee since its 2nd Party Conference in 1990, and currently secretary of the PASOK Parliamentary Section on Agriculture and Development. Continuously elected Chairman of the Ioannina Union of Agricultural Co-operatives since 1982. Played a key role in setting up the ASIK-SVEKI manufacturing plants, and developing the Dodoni, Pindos, and ASIK plants as well as in the Model Co-operative Centre. Elected onto the board of the Panhellenic Federation of Agricultural Co-operatives (PASEGES) in 1987; elected its Chairman in 1990. Very active in bringing the problems faced by Greek agricultural co-operatives to the notice of European bodies. Elected vice-president of the Confederation of European Agriculture (C.E.A.) for several years, and a member of the board of the EU Committee of Professional Agricultural Organizations (C.O.P.A.).
