Parliamentary Activities

Elected MP on 1989, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009 general elections.
Tabled over 1000 questions during the lifetime of the last parliament, and tabled the most Oral Questions and made the most parliamentary speeches of any other MP.

Political/Social Activities

Assistant Professor of Neurosurgery. Has also conducted research in Britain. Senior Registrar at the Polyliniki and Evangelismos Hospitals, Senior Consultant at Metaxas and Genikon Kratikon Hospitals. Former Chairperson of the Hellenic Society of Neurosurgeons, Representative for Greece at the European Forum for the Training of Neurosurgeons.
Member of the Executive of the Association of Athens Hospital Doctors, of the Medical Association of Athens, of the KAT Hospital and for the Committee for the Construction of the Thriasion Hospital of Eleusis. Founder of the Greek Neurosurgery Journals. Has over 220 publications in Greek and other Medical Journals, among which are 9 Greek and 3 foreign books.
Active participant in political and social struggles from his student years. A member of EDA, the main leftwing political party of the time, before the military junta of 1967, of the Lambrakis Youth, of the KKE (Greek Communist Party) and of the Peace Movement. A leading member of Synaspismos (Coalition of the Left and Progress) since its foundation; currently Member of the Synaspismos Central Committee. Was elected on the Synaspismos ticket for the Attica electoral district in the 1989 and 2000 elections, and for SYRIZA (Coalition of the Radical Left) in the elections of 2004 and 2007. Member of the Standing Parliamentary Committee for Social Affairs and of the Parliamentary Committee for Evaluation of Technology. Member of the interparty representation of the Greek Parliament to IPU and COSAC. Stood for the Western Attica County Council as head of ticket in the local elections of 1994, 1998 and 2002. County councillor for Western Attica between 1994 and 2006. Is particularly active in health, social security, environmental and human rights issues. Has written over 400 articles on social, medical, political and ecological topics for the Athens and local press.
