Chairman of the Parliamentary Special Standing Committee on Greeks Abroad. Member of the Standing Committee on Defence and Foreign Affairs. Former member of the Greek delegation to the Organisation of Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs (responsible for Greeks Abroad), 20-11-2000 to 24-10-2001, 08-07-1994 to 15-09-1995, 15-09-1995 to 22-01-1996, and 22-01-1996 to 13-04-2000. Joined PASOK in 1975. Member of the PASOK Prefectural Committee for Piraeus B in 1978; appointed 1st secretary of the same committee in 1982. Vice-Chairman and then Chairman (1984-1985) of the Nikaia General Hospital. Prefect of Arkadia in 1985. Alternate Secretary General (deputy Regional Governor) of the Peloponnese (1985-February 1989). Elected alternate member of the PASOK Central Committee on 22-09-1990 at the 2nd Party Conference. Elected a full member of the Central Committee at the 3rd and 4th Party Conferences on 17-04-1994 and 30-06-1996 respectively. Elected secretary of the PASOK Greeks Abroad Section on 25-07-1996, and re-elected on 20-10-1996.
