Maps
The Map Collection is currently one of the largest in Greece. More than 4.500 maps of Greece, the Balkans, the Eastern Mediterranean and Europe are kept today in Special Collections; some of which date from the 15th century. A great part of the collection represents the so-called historical chartography (15th to 19th centuries) of the Greek region, including monumental editions of a high historic and artistic value, such as the “Charta of Greece” by Rigas Feraios (1797). The Collection includes also maps of the Greek territory produced by the Geographical Service of the Hellenic Army and the Forestry Service.
Historic maps of the Collection are occasionally exhibited in relevant exhibitions.
