Parliamentary Activities

Ioannis Gkiolas was first elected as MP for Argolida with the party SY.RIZ.A in September 2015. Member of the Committees on (1) Economic Affairs, (2) Institutions and Transparency, and (3) Public Administration, Public Order and Justice.

Political/Social Activities

Ioannis Gkiolas was part in the Left movement since his school years. During the 1975-1980 period, being a law school student, he had an active political role, taking part in the events that culminated with the 1979 student occupation; he was a member of the Second PanHellenic - EKON Rigas Fereos. He served in prefectural government body (Prefectural Council) between 1994-1998 (Α΄ Prefectural Government) in the united opposition. He was elected in the Municipality of Nafplion local government (Municipal Council) during the 1990-1994 and 2006-2010 terms, assuming the role of the opposition; he led the “NAFPLIO, I ALLI PROTASI” (ΝAFPLION, AN ALTERNATIVE SUGGESTION) municipal party during the 2010-2014 term, exercising strong and effective opposition. At the same time, he participated actively in social causes and in the movement for cancellation of unjust taxes. He spoke vigorously against the closure of the national broadcaster, ERT, and defended productively properties owned by the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund.
