Hellenic Parliament delegation visits Armenia in framework of Twinning project between two Parliaments

A Greek parliamentary delegation, MPs Dimitrios Markopoulos (Chairperson of the Greece-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group), Ioannis-Michail Loverdos and Lazaros Tsavdaridis, visited Yerevan from 29 November to 2 December 2021, in the framework of the 1st Public Event of the Twinning Project to strengthen the capacity of the National Assembly of Armenia through the implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement with the EU (CEPA). 

The Head of the Greek delegation Dimitrios Markopoulos, representing the President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas, underlined that the democratic future of the peoples of Europe depends to a great extent on the good use of the cooperation capabilities between their parliaments. 

The event participants, among which the Vice-President of the National Assembly of Armenia Ruben Rubinyan and the Secretary General Vahan Naribekyan, Chairpersons of parliamentary committees and MPs of the National Assembly of Armenia, the EU Ambassador in Armenia Andrea Wiktorin, the Ambassadors of Greece and Italy Evangelos Tournakis and Alfonso di Riso, heads of diplomatic missions of other member states and academics, confirmed the commitment of everyone involved to the objective, which is to strengthen democratic institutions throughout public administration. 

During the visit to Yerevan, the Greek MPs met with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Paruir Havhannisyan, the Chariman of the Committee on European Integration Arman Yeghoyan, the Deputy Chair of the Economic Affairs Committee Babken Tunyan and a delegation of the Armenia Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group, led by the Deputy Chair Vladimir Vardanyan. The close ties of historical friendship between the two peoples were confirmed in the meetings. Regarding the recognition by Greece in 1996 and Italy in 2000 of the Armenian Genocide by the Ottoman authoriries, the Greek delegation visited the Genocide Memorial and Museum on Tsitsernakaberd hill in Yerevan.
