Meeting of delegations from Hellenic Parliament and National Assembly of Armenia in framework of European programme of cooperation

In the framework of the European Twinning Project between the Hellenic Parliament and the National Assembly of Armenia, a work meeting was held on “Strengthening the capacity of the National Assembly of Armenia to further support CEPA oversight and implementation”, i.e. the partnership agreement between Armenia and the European Union on issues of bilateral trade and entrepreneurship. The Hellenic Parliament, following an evaluation by the European Commission, is at the helm of this cooperation project with the National Assembly of Armenia and is providing its know-how on the implementation of the European acquis, with the collaboration of the Italian Parliament.

From the Greek side, the meeting was attended by MPs Marietta Giannakou, Manousos Voloudakis and Yannis Loverdos from the European Affairs Committee and the Chairman of the Greece – Armenia Friendship Group, MP Dimitrios Markopoulos. The Special Secretary of the Parliament Vassileios Bagiokos also participated, as did Eleni Kanellopoulou, Vassileios Svolopoulos and Eleftherios Papadopoulos from the Project Implementation Team.

The participants from the Armenia side were Arman Yeghoyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on European Integration, Arsen Torosyan, a member of the Committee and former Health Minister of Armenia and Mari Manukyan, Head of the Project and Advisor to the Standing Committee on European Integration.

During the meeting, aspects of mutual understanding and cooperation in bilateral and international relations were highlighted, the common values and historical ties between the two countries were reaffirmed and the importance the two parliaments attach to their cooperation through the Twinning Project was stressed. The participants discussed issues of European interest, the transposition and implementation of the EU acquis, as well as the way the Hellenic Parliament is organised and operates, especially in the field of International Relations and European Affairs.
