Chairman of Greece-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group meets with Ambassador of Georgia in Athens

On the occasion of 30 years of diplomatic relations between Greece and Georgia, an anniversary meeting was held today at the Hellenic Parliament between the Chairman of the Greece-Georgia Parliamentary Friendship Group Dimitris Kouvelas and the Ambassador of Georgia in Athens David Dondua.

Mr Kouvelas referred to the two countries’ long-standing relations based on strong historical ties, friendship and mutual respect. On this basis, he said, we shall continue our constructive cooperation, at the same time strengthening bilateral dialogue. In this light, the Greek community’s important role in Georgia and, respectively, the Georgian community’s in Greece, -by far the largest in Europe-, were stressed as significantly contributing to this direction. Closing, the Greek MP reiterated Greece’s support towards the deepening of EU-Georgia relations.

The Ambassador of Georgia David Dondua, expressed his gratitude for Greece’s support to his country’s efforts towards accessing NATO and the European family. He also underscored Georgia's strong political will for further cooperation with the European Union as demonstrated in practice by the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in order to promote their common goal for EU membership.

Both sides expressed their mutual desire to increase exchanges of bilateral visits, both at the level of diplomacy and at the level of cultural activities.
