Meeting of New Democracy Parliamentary Group Secretary Ioannis Bougas with Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Athens

A meeting of New Democracy Parliamentary Group Secretary Ioannis Bougas with the Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Athens Anar Huseynov was held today, at the request of the foreign official.

During the short meeting, they discussed, among other issues, the potential offered by parliamentary diplomacy to strengthen the relations between the two countries in such areas as trade and tourism exchanges, which are already flourishing. Highlighted, indicatively, was the cooperation in the energy sector expressed with the strategically important project for the transportation of natural gas from Azerbaijan to Greece and through this country to Southern and Western Europe.   

With regard to the issues of general and foreign policy, especially those subject to regulation by the rules of International Law and the Law of the Sea, Mr Bougas noted Greece's unwavering faith in the implementation of the democratic principles of its Constitution and the safeguarding of human rights as dictated by the European Principles and the United Nations Charter.

The meeting was concluded with an expression of intent from both sides to plan bilateral parliamentary exchanges in due course.
