Cuba - Greece Parliamentary Friendship Group meets with Ambassador of Cuba in Athens

The existing strong foundation of friendship and the particularly good bilateral relations between Greece and Cuba were confirmed today during the meeting that was held between the Greece – Cuba Parliamentary Friendship Group, chairman of which is Dionysis Aktypis, and the Ambassador of Cuba in Athens Zelmys Maria Dominguez Cortina.

The Secretary of the Friendship Group Ioannis Giokas and members Irini Kassimati, Georgios Katrougalos, Nikolaos Syrmalenios and Maria Apatzidi also participated.

During the meeting the two sides had the opportunity to exchange views on current issues of common interest and to look into the possibility of strengthening cooperation at the cultural and political level. Particular reference was made to Cuba’s high position in the medical, pharmaceutical and biotechnology sectors, proof of which is the effective response to the pandemic through domestic vaccines available for export, wherever there will be demand, as soon as there is WHO approval.

It is also noteworthy that Cuba, in the midst of a pandemic and a trade embargo, showed great solidarity and humanity to other peoples affected by the pandemic, sending volunteer doctors and nursing staff. For this very reason, Cuba has been nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize.
