Thanasis Davakis was born on the 18th of March 1962, in Athens. He originates from Kechrianika in Kittas, Municipality of East Mani.

He is a graduate of the Law School of Democritus University of Thrace (1980–1984) and of the Department of Philology at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (1984–1986). He was a postgraduate fellow at the Centre for Modern Greek Research of the National Hellenic Research Foundation.

Parliamentary Activities

He has been continuously elected as a Member of Parliament for Laconia since 1993, with the exception of the two-year period 2007- 2009. During this time, he has served as Secretary, Dean of the Parliament, and President of the Special Standing Committee on Defense Procurement and Contracts. Throughout his long parliamentary career, he has participated in various Standing and Special Committees, such as the Committee on Public Administration, Public Order, and Justice, the Committee on National Defense and Foreign Affairs, the Committee on Defense Procurement and Contracts, the Committee on Research and Technology, the Committee on the Rules of Parliament, the Committee on the Revision of the Constitution, the Committee on Hellenism of the Diaspora, the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

Political/Social Activities

He completed his military service in the Air Force as a Reserve Second Lieutenant (1984–1986).
He served as Deputy Minister of National Defence in the government of Antonis Samaras (2013–2014) and currently in the government of Kyriakos Mitsotakis (2025 - Present).
He is an Honorary Member of the Cultural Center of Sparta, the Literary Society “Parnassos,” and the Society for Laconian Studies.
During the period April 2008 to September 2009, he served as President of the Organization for Agricultural Vocational Education, Training and Employment (OGEEKA “DIMITRA”).
He is a Lawyer and has been a member of the Athens Bar Association since 1986.
He has been awarded the Cross of Merit and Honour for distinguished service in the performance of his duties as Deputy Minister of National Defence. He has contributed articles for the newspapers Kathimerini, Estia, Apogevmatini, and Oikonomikos Tachydromos on issues related to Politics, Agriculture, Culture, and Defence.
In his free time, he enjoys reading, farming, walking, and swimming.
