Parliamentary Activities

Elected MP (ND) for Athens B in the general elections of 1993, 1996, 2000, 2004, 2007 and 2009.
Panos Kammenos actively participates in several Committees of the Greek Parliament such as the Standing Committee of Defence and Foreign Affairs, where he serves as President, and the Standing Committee on Public Administration, Public Order and Justice, as member. Secretary of the Presidium of Parliament since 09-10-1996. Former vice-Chairman of the all-party Committee on traffic accidents. Head of the Greek delegation to the Parliamentary Assembly of the Organisation for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE PA). Vice-president of the OSCE PA, Special Representative of the President OSCE PA on Anti-terrorism issues, Chairperson of the Group of Christian-Democrats, Conservatives and like-minded in the OSCE PA and member of the EPP Political Bureau.

Political/Social Activities

Founding member of Glyfada branch of ONNED, the ND youth organisation. Active in the student union movement abroad. Made responsible for organising the Student Union Section of the European People’s Party, 1982. Chairman of the ONNED Prefectural Committee for Attiki, member of the ONNED Central Administration and chairman of its Disciplinary Council until 1985. Actively involved with Non-Governmental Organizations, which mostly deal with child and environmental protection. Published (in Greek): Terrorism: Theory and Practice. Included in Turkey’s list of “persona non grata”, as published in the newspaper Sabah. Awarded the Grand Gross of Honour by the Partriarch of the Czech Republic and the Medal of Honour by the Patriarch of Jerusalem.
