About the Television Station
The Television Station of the Hellenic Parliament is operating since 1999 as an autonomous television network, a non-profit mass medium. Administratively, it is an organic unit of the Hellenic Parliament hierarchically placed under the Speaker of the Parliament.
The need for objective and substantive information is nowadays one of the standing and fundamental demands of the civil society. That being the case, the operation of a parliamentary television station may become a means for social awareness, may encourage active citizenship and provide genuine information guaranteeing transparency in the operation of the political system and accessibility to the institutional decision making centers. With regards to its nature and operation the Television Station of the Parliament is an institutional Medium, with a primal reason for establishment the recording of the parliamentary activities and the promotion of culture. Thus, among the main goals of the Channel of the Parliament is to inform and to familiarize the citizens with the work of the Parliament regarding crucial decisions directly affecting both Hellenic and/ or global society. According to its mission the Station of the Parliament broadcasts all the sittings of the Plenum, the sittings of the Standing Committees (previously recorded), the sittings of the Recces Section of the Parliament (Summer Session), as well as part of the works of the other parliamentary committees.
As to the promotion of art and culture among society, Hellenic Parliament TV Station broadcasts classical movies of Greek and international cinematography, historical and scientific documentaries, operas, theatrical plays and ballets, profiles of great artists, while emphasizing on productions depicting both the history, the folklore and the reality of the different areas of our country.
