President of Parliament, Constantine Tassoulas, meets with Alternate Minister of Foreign Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis

The President of the Hellenic Parliament, Constantine Tassoulas, met with the Alternate Foreign Minister for European Affairs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, to discuss the national proposal for the Conference on the Future of Europe.
During the meeting which was held in the President’s office, they considered joint actions ahead of the opening of the Dialogue on the Future of Europe, in May, which coincides with the 40th anniversary of Greece’s accession to the EU.
The President of the Parliament affirmed that the Hellenic Parliament will be an active participant, with targeted actions, throughout the Dialogue on the Future of Europe, so that it may be as substantive and constructive as possible.
The Alternate Foreign Minister emphasised the important role the National Parliaments are called upon to play, especially the Hellenic Parliament, in the Europe-wide dialogue on the Future of Europe. He also pointed out that Greece could creatively enrich the agenda with its vision for a stronger Europe, a more open and more ambitious one.
The Greek proposal, as recently presented by Mr. Varvitsiotis to the Council of Ministers, includes 6+1 pillars, in particular: the European Defence and Security Framework, the European Cohesion Policies, the Environment and Climate Change, Migration, Research and Innovation, the strategy for deepening the EMU and the Rule of Law-Democracy-Human Rights triptych.
Mr. Konstantinos Alexandris, the Foreign Ministry’s Special Envoy for the Conference on the Future of Europe, also attended the meeting.
