Chair of Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs Dora Bakoyannis meets with Ambassador of Turkey Çağatay Erciyes

The Chair of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs, Dora Bakoyannis, held today a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of Turkey to Athens, Çağatay Erciyes.
Mrs Bakoyannis congratulated the foreign official for the ratification, by the Turkish National Assembly, of the Protocol of Sweden's accession to NATO. Moreover, she underlined the improved climate between the two countries, which has recently been confirmed on both sides, at the highest level and continues to be maintained after the devastating earthquakes that hit the neighbouring country.
At the same time, the Chair conveyed that the Greek side is favourably disposed to make use of the positive climate, from the part of Turkey, in order to strengthen its potential European pacing. Concerning the explosive condition in the Middle East, Mrs Bakoyannis noted that Greece emphasises the need to prevent the escalation of conflicts, as well as to address the dramatic consequences of the humanitarian crisis.
The Chair did not fail to stress that a possible spread of the crisis will inevitably have an impact on migratory flows to neighbouring countries, a fact that has long been calling for close cooperation in order to seek out solutions.
