Meeting of IAO Secretary General Maximos Charakopoulos with Deputy Speaker of Parliament of Finland

The Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy (IAO), Member of the Hellenic Parliament Maximos Charakopoulos met with the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament of Finland Tarja Filatov, at a working breakfast offered to the delegation of Orthodox MPs, who paid an official visit to Helsinki from 23 to 27 September.

With the Nordic Council

Mr Charakopoulos led an inter-parliamentary delegation on the occasion of the international campaign for the rescue of Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. The delegation included MPs Athanasios Davakis and Ioannis Sarakiotis from Greece, Irakli Kadagashvili from Georgia, Mile Taleski and Ane Lashkoska from North Macedonia, and Dragan Bojovic from Montenegro, as well as IOA Advisor Konstantinos Mygdalis. 

Maximos Charakopoulos held meetings with Mrs Karoliina Partanen, Head of the Finnish Parliamentary Delegation to the Nordic Council and with the Committee of Education.

Campaign for Hagia Sophia

The presentation of the volume “Hagia Sophia - The Temples of God's Wisdom around the world” was held in the “Sofia” cultural centre in Helsinki. Professor of Byzantine Studies Paavo Hohti, expert in church architecture and Lecturer of the University of Helsinki Dr Renja Suominen-Kokkonen, and Dr Maximos Charakopoulos were the speakers of the event.
