EU-Ukraine relations on agenda of 70th COSAC on second day of Conference

During the second day of the 70th Conference of Parliamentary Committees for Union Affairs of Parliaments of the EU (COSAC) the debate focused on the situation in Ukraine and its relations with the EU.

The Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament and Chair of the European Affairs Committee Ioannis Plakiotakis reiterated our country's ongoing support for the independence, national sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognised borders, as well as for its inalienable right to self-defence against Russian aggression. He noted that Greece remains committed to a steady provision of aid to Ukraine at the political, financial, military and humanitarian level, while pointing out that a comprehensive, just and sustainable peace for Ukraine, on the basis of the UN Charter and International Law, is the Union's strategic goal. He also added that Greece supports the establishment of alternative routes for exports of grains and other Ukrainian agricultural products, emphasising that the ports of Alexandroupolis and Thessaloniki in Northern Greece can become points of entry for supplies and goods from and to Ukraine.

Summing up, he emphasised the obligation of the EU and the West as a whole to address the military operations in Gaza in such a way that it will not alienate a significant part of the Global South, which attaches greater significance to the Palestinian issue rather than the Ukrainian one.
