Hellenic Parliament represented at Women Leaders Global Forum

The Global Forum of Women Political Leaders (WPL) on "How to shape a more sustainable and equal world in the future" took place in Reykjavik, Iceland from 8 to 10 November 2021.

Olga Kefalogianni,  Ambassador of the Network of Women Political Leaders, participated in the proceedings via teleconference.

In her speech, Mrs Kefalogianni noted that, despite progress achieved, the outbreak of the pandemic exacerbated pre-existing gender inequalities.

Workplace inequalities, the gender pay gap, discrimination and sexual harassment still persist.

Numerous cases of physical or sexual violence are recorded in everyday life, together with the fact of women’s under-representation at all levels and aspects of leadership.

Gender equality is a prerequisite for a more sustainable world, as well as an indispensable condition for more democratic and inclusive societies, said Mrs Kefalogianni.

The access of women of all ages to quality education is a central element for women’s empowerment. Raising awareness on equality issues through social and political institutions, the creation of stronger women's networks, as well as the promotion of women's rights, talents and skills are key prerequisites for women to gain confidence, knowledge and, ultimately, to take charge of their lives.
