President of Hellenic Parliament meets with 1st President of French Court of Audit Pierre Moscovici

The President of the Parliament Constantine Tassoulas welcomed today to the Hellenic Parliament the 1st President of the French Court of Audit (Cour des Comptes) Pierre Moscovici, "a proven and worthy friend of Greece and an important European", as he called him, who with his presence "reminds us of his contribution to overcoming the Greek economic crisis".

As the President of the Parliament pointed out, "during the difficult period of the memoranda, Mr Moscovici, as Commissioner, did not communicate telepathically with the Greek society and the Greek government, instead he came here dozens of times, in the difficult years, to help find ways to overcome the crisis and we did find them". 

Mr Tassoulas described as "excellent" the cooperation between the Hellenic Parliament and the Greek Court of Audit, under the Presidency of Mr Sarmas, since, as he said, "we have taken steps that had not been taken for many decades and above all we have expanded this cooperation by adding to our "quiver", in addition to parliamentary control, budgetary control and the Parliament can now consult with the Court of Audit and give recommendations to it for carrying out controls, something that had never been done before".

For his part, the 1st President of the French Court of Audit stated that he has visited Greece on many occasions, in various capacities, "always as a friend", pointing out that "at the time of the difficult economic crisis I also wanted to do my part to overcome it". At the same time he expressed his joy that this time he has come "to a Greece that has left behind the forced supervision exercised by the European institutions due to the situation, to a country that has left behind the austerity programmes and is now an equal in the Eurozone and, despite the pervasive financial crisis affecting the world, is standing on its feet and is participating in the common effort to reach calmer waters”. 

Mr Moscovici underlined the close cooperation between the Greek and French Court of Audit. Summing up, he emphasised the importance of Greek-French friendship, expressing at the same time the conviction that “it is our duty to uphold this already strong friendship and to strengthen it further at all levels, i.e. economic, strategic and political”.

The President of the Greek Court of Audit Ioannis Sarmas was also present at the meeting, as well as the Ambassador of France to Greece Patrick Maisonnave.
