President of Hellenic Parliament meets with Ambassador of Italy in Athens

The President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas received a courtesy call from the Ambassador of Italy in Greece Patrizia Falcinelli.
The President of the Parliament welcomed Mrs. Falcinelli noting that she assumed office on a significant month, as “in June 2020, here in Athens, the agreement on the delineation of the maritime zones between Greece and Italy was signed”.
“An agreement” which – as Mr. Tassoulas said – serves as a “standard for international relations and which, having passed through the necessary parliamentary processes in Greece and Italy, is entering its final stage, as it is to be published in the Official Gazette of the Italian Government”.
“It is an agreement which pays tribute to International Law and International Law is the very element which we think needs to prevail in our relations with all countries of the wider region of the Southeast Mediterranean. In this pursuit we are certain that Italy will be on our side” stressed Mr. Tassoulas.
The President of the Parliament wished “our friends, the Italian people, on the occasion of their national holiday a week ago, every success” and thanked the Italian School of Archaeology for its work, since, as he said, “for many years, with its excavations in our country, it has been helping us to find and highlight our archaeological treasures”.
“The Hellenic Parliament with the Greece-Italy Friendship Group works for the betterment of relations between the two peoples and with the esteemed Ambassador we will be also be discussing how through parliamentary diplomacy to further promote our truly impressively good relations” noted the President of the Parliament.
For her part, the Ambassador of Italy in Greece Patrizia Falcinelli said that “we are two countries in the northern coast of the Mediterranean and this implies that we can and must cooperate on many issues that concern both sides”.
“At a European level, the friendly relations between our countries make it effortless for us to forge important partnerships, such as the ones recently expressed through the agreement on the EEZ” added Mrs. Falcinelli, who also noted the smooth cooperation between Greece and Italy in the framework of the EU as well as in many regional and multilateral fora, such as MED 5 and MED 7.
The Italian Ambassador referred to the cooperation between the two countries during the pandemic by thanking the President of the Hellenic Parliament “for the symbolic gesture of solidarity, i.e. the illumination of the Hellenic Parliament with the colours of the Italian flag”.
Furthermore, Mrs. Falcinelli commended Greece’s contribution to the adoption of the vaccination certificate, while she referred to the “very important efforts and successes of the Greek Government in the digitalisation of services” which, as she said, “will definitely help restart the economy once the pandemic is over”.
The Diplomatic Advisor of the Hellenic Parliament, Ambassador Constantine Economides also attended the meeting.
