Environmental protection and impact of war on Ukrainian children at centre of 2nd day of Council of Europe Parliamentary Assembly at Hellenic Parliament

 

The proceedings of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) continued and concluded today in the Senate Chamber of the Parliament, focusing on the environment and children in Ukraine.

The meetings were held by the "Parliamentary Network for a Healthy Environment" and the "Parliamentary Network on the Situation of the Children of Ukraine", which are specialised bodies of PACE aiming to generate concrete policy recommendations.

Statements were delivered by the lead rapporteur, Member of Parliament and PACE member Mr Georgios Stamatis, the Director of Research at CERTH/CPERI Mr Panagiotis Grammelis, and the former Chair of WWF France, Ms Alexandra Palt.

Speeches were also made by the Ambassador and Special Envoy of Greece to Ukraine, Mr Spyros Lampridis, the Deputy Minister of Education of Ukraine, Ms Anastasia Konovalova, the Chair of the Attica & Cyclades Regional Department of the Panhellenic Physical Therapy Association, Mr Lefteris Bournousouzis, the Chair of the European Disability Forum and the National Confederation of Disabled People (NCDP), Mr Ioannis Vardakastanis, the Director of the Rehabilitation Center for Children with Disabilities of the City of Kyiv, Ms Alona Tereshchenko, the Regional Director for Europe and the Middle East of Direct Relief, Ms Katerina Takovska, as well as the international expert of the Council of Europe Advisory Group on the Children of Ukraine, Ms Elayn Sammon.
