Greece-Slovenia Parliamentary Friendship Group Chair meets with Ambassador of Slovenia to Athens

The Chair of the Greece-Slovenia Parliamentary Friendship Group, Nikos Panagiotopoulos, held a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of Slovenia to Athens, Tamara Weingerl Pozar.

During the meeting and on the occasion of the recent completion of 30 years since the beginning of our diplomatic relations, Mr Panagiotopoulos expressed his conviction that this is the beginning of a fruitful cooperation and pointed out that often unfortunate circumstances such as the economic crisis or recently the pandemic and conflicts in the region, serve to strengthen the closeness between countries, when there is an urgent need for closer cooperation.

Within this context, the Ambassador noted that the frequent bilateral contacts at a high level at a recent time period, reflect the exceptional level of our cooperation, while the Embassy is already planning cultural and sports events.

Among other issues, the Chair of the Friendship Group identified room for further joint actions, both in the field of naval presence in the Mediterranean, as well as in military cooperation, especially amidst the unstable geopolitical environment.

The discussion was also centered on migration, a matter of concern for the whole of Europe, since all countries are monitoring closely the issue to ensure that movements do not go uncontrolled.

Finally, reference was made to issues concerning the strengthening of the tourism sector, since the direct air flight connection between Athens and Ljubljana makes our country one of the most popular destinations for Slovenian citizens.
