Council of Europe Conference of Presidents of Parliament and Meeting of Secretaries General of Parliament, Dublin (28-29 September)
The 1st Vice-President of the Parliament Ioannis Plakiotakis will be the head of a multi-member delegation of the Parliament that will travel to Dublin on the 28th and 29th of September to participate in the Conference of Presidents of Parliament of Council of Europe (CoE) member states.
Presidents and Vice-Presidents from the 46 member states of the CoE and many partner countries, observers and heads of inter-parliamentary assemblies will participate in the Conference.
The debate will focus on three themes:
· Consequences of Russia's war of aggression against Ukraine and role of national parliaments in Ukraine's reconstruction
· The challenges to representative democracies in volatile times
· Equality and diversity in public representation - the participation of young people, women and ethnic and social groups as members of parliament
Also, on the 28th of September, there will be a pre-conference event on Hate speech and threats of violence against elected representatives
In the framework of the Conference, the Secretary General of the Parliament George Mylonakis will participate on 29 September in the Meeting of Secretaries General. On the agenda will be the following:
-Standards in Public Life, Integrity Framework of Parliaments
-Activity Report of the European Centre for Parliamentary Research and Documentation (ECPRD) 2022-2023
-ECPRD Priorities and programme for 2024-2025
