Greek parliamentary delegation meets with Chinese parliament delegation

 

The 1st Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament, Ioannis Plakiotakis, met today at the Hellenic Parliament with a six-member delegation of the Social Development Affairs Committee of the 14th National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, headed by Mr Yang Zhenwu, also in the presence of the Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Xiao Junzheng.

During the meeting, issues of mutual interest were discussed regarding cooperation prospects in areas such as the economy, shipping, education, culture, tourism and overall the two peoples’ socio-economic growth and welfare. Both sides expressed their admiration and appreciation over the two countries’ long history and their constructive cooperation both at the level of peoples, and the two supreme democratic institutions, the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China and the Hellenic Parliament.

Later, the Chinese delegation had a working meeting with the Chair of the Hellenic Parliament Standing Committee on Social Affairs and member of the New Democracy Party, V. Economou, together with a cross-party delegation of Committee members G. Gavrilos (SYRIZA) and I. Tsimaris (PASOK-KINAL).

The meeting was conducted in a very positive atmosphere, as had been the first meeting; both sides exchanged views on issues of bilateral and international interest, focusing on the fields of social policy, labour relations, workforce health and social security, support for vulnerable social groups and people with disabilities, etc. Other topics discussed in detail in the context of the meeting were issues of parliamentary operation, such as committee function, legislation and decision-making in the conduct of policy.

Both sides reiterated their will to deepen cooperation in the direction of materialising mutually beneficial strategic goals for Greece and China. The Vice-President of the Hellenic Parliament and the Chair of the Social Affairs Committee assured the Chinese delegation over the Hellenic Parliament’s commitment to steadily pursue Greece-China parliamentary cooperation and the further deepening of bilateral relations at all levels, towards the benefit of both peoples, while the Chinese side addressed an invitation for a Hellenic Parliament delegation visit to China.
