Chair of Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs meets with Ambassador of Bulgaria

The Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament, Dora Bakoyannis, met today with the Ambassador of Bulgaria to Athens, Valentin Poryazov.
During the meeting, the strong bonds of friendship between the two peoples were confirmed and both sides expressed their satisfaction for the excellent cooperation in the political, economic and military field, as well as for the constructive dialogue between the two countries on bilateral, regional, European and global issues of mutual interest.
Mrs Bakoyannis and Mr Poryazov discussed the course for the accession of the Western Balkans to the European Union and agreed that their accession will ensure stability in our region. Mrs Bakoyannis stressed that the Western Balkan countries should immediately proceed with the necessary reforms to meet the political and economic criteria for EU membership.
The Ambassador of Bulgaria expressed his satisfaction with the decision of the Justice and Home Affairs Council to lift border controls for Bulgaria and Romania at the air and sea borders within the Schengen area from the end of March 2024 and thanked Greece for its support.
