Meeting of Chair of Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs with Ambassador of Israel to Athens

The Chairwoman of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament Dora Bakoyannis held a courtesy meeting with the Ambassador of Israel to Athens Noam Katz.

At the centre of the meeting, and in the framework of current affairs, were the bilateral relations between Greece and Israel, isuues of climate change, digital governance and security in the wider region. Special reference was made to the dynamics of active, strategically important forms of regional cooperation in the light of potential expansion.

During the meeting, Mrs Bakoyannis noted the possibility of utilising every means of parliamentary diplomacy, in order for the Hellenic Parliament and the Knesset to further derive the maximum benefits from the upcoming meetings at the level of friendship groups, parliamentary committees, as well as trilateral and multilateral cooperation.

For his part, Ambassador Katz, after a brief recap of the two people's historical relationship, referred to the issues that concerned the recent Trilateral Summit in Nicosia, considering that any geopolitical development in the wider region is reason enough to strengthen cooperation in the fields of energy, defence, security and civil protection.
