President of Hellenic Parliament inaugurates "Dream On" modern art exhibition at former Public Tobacco Factory

“The Hellenic Parliament presents contemporary Greek and world modern art forms to the Athenian and the wider public, in an era of great reflection, controversy and anxiety for the future”, stated the President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas, inaugurating the "Dream On" modern art exhibition at the former Public Tobacco Factory, in collaboration with the "NEON" Cultural Organization and collector Dimitris Daskalopoulos.

As Mr Tassoulas noted, this collaboration project "performs a constitutional duty, even if this does not seem compatible with the paradox, with modernism, with the audacity of art works", adding: "And yet, our Constitution in article 16 calls us to promote art. "Art, science, research are free and the state has an obligation to promote them."

The "Dream On" Exhibition

For the second consecutive year, "NEON" activates the emblematic former Public Tobacco Factory site as a space of culture, as part of its collaboration with the Hellenic Parliament to present “Dream On”, a modern art exhibition that celebrates art in the public space.

Curated by Dimitris Paleocrassas, Art historian and consultant of the D. Daskalopoulos Collection, “Dream On” brings together 18 large-scale installations by Greek and international artists from the D.Daskalopoulos Collection, as well as 20 original first drawings.

The exhibition presents some of the Collection’s most important works that will then be donated to 4 museums in 3 countries over 2 continents (EMST, Tate, and jointly to the Guggenheim and the MCA Chicago).

This is the first time that such a number of large-scale works of the D. Daskalopoulos Collection are presented in Greece, assembled in the open, freely accessible space of the former Public Tobacco Factory.

The "Dream On" modern art exhibition starts on June 8 and will last until November 27, 2022, at the former Public Tobacco Factory, on Lenorman str 218, a "monumental" site, as declared by the Ministry of Culture.
