President of Hellenic Parliament: "Europe's regeneration will begin on June 9th ..."
The message of the restart and regeneration of Europe through the European elections of June 9th was conveyed in their joint statements at their meeting at the Parliament today by the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Constantine Tassoulas and the President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola.
"Participation in democracy is the greatest antidote to demagoguery and populism" pointed out Mr Tassoulas, who revealed "the strange but impressive way" in which Roberta Metsola's place of origin is linked to Greece, since the first coin that came out of the Greek mint in 1828 was the phoenix, but the machinery came from Malta!
"And so with this machinery was issued the first currency of the regeneration of Greece. The regeneration therefore, has roots also in Malta, it has roots in Greece as well. The regeneration of Europe will start on June 9th with you leading the way, with Greece leading the way, to make Europe strategically self-reliant," Tassoulas said.
For her part, the President of the European Parliament stressed the importance of participation in the EU elections by saying: "If you don't vote, someone else will choose for you". And in the same vein, she added:
"Happy to be part of that regeneration Mr President that you mentioned, we can go together in this path, and the relation between the European Parliament and the National Parliaments is crucial in this respect. You run elections on a national level, we run as mandated by the same citizens to run elections on a European level, but the amount of work that we have is extremely common in a lot of the subjects that we deal with."
At the meeting with the President of the Parliament and the President of the European Parliament were present, the First Vice President of the Parliament and Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs, Ioannis Plakiotakis and the Vice Chair of the European Parliamentary Group of the European People's Party, Vangelis Meimarakis.
Thereafter, Roberta Metsola gave a speech at the Plenary Session of the Hellenic Parliament, followed by a meeting with representatives of parliamentary groups.
