Meeting of Secretary General of Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) with new Serbian Ambassador to Greece

"Greeks and Serbs have historically close and strong ties of friendship, which are of course based on our common faith of Orthodoxy. This was, after all, the "ark of salvation" of our nations during the gloomy centuries of Ottoman rule. And today, however, these ties remain unbreakable. During the meeting we shared our common concern about the fate of Christians in Syria after the takeover by jihadist forces. At the same time, I had the opportunity to inform the esteemed Ambassador about the multifaceted activities of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, such as the promotion of Christian values in Europe and the role of Orthodox Christians in achieving this goal, as well as the protection of Christian monuments in danger. Among these, of course, are the Orthodox monuments of particular spiritual and historical value in Kosovo". The Secretary General of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy, Member of the Hellenic Parliament Dr Maximos Charakopoulos, stated the above on the occasion of his recent meeting with the new Ambassador of Serbia to Greece Nikola Nedeljkovic, whom he congratulated on the assumption of his duties and wished him success in his mission, to further strengthen relations between Greece and Serbia. Dr Maximos Charakopoulos was accompanied at the meeting by the IAO Advisor Dr Konstantinos Mygdalis.
