Speech by President of Hellenic Parliament at Centre for European Constitutional Law “Themistoklis and Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation” International Conference "Constitution - Economy - Europe"

"Constitution, Economy and Europe, these inclusive words could be likely to constitute the institutional sacristy of our total existence." This was emphasised by the President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas, in his opening remarks at the Tsatsos Foundation Forum 2022, held on May 5 and 6 at the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Centre under the auspices of the Hellenic Parliament.

Mr Tassoulas stated that our whole existence fits into the words Constitution - Economy - Europe. "The Constitution is the statutory manifestation of the state phenomenon, economy is the free development of our personality and Europe is the geopolitical, geostrategic space in which Greece, sometimes acting “with Gods blessings", sometimes with mistakes and failures, seeks to secure its position, to unfold its rights and to ensure prosperity for its citizens".

He also stressed that nowadays, guided by the triptych Constitution - Economy - Europe "we need to strengthen all mechanisms that turn reflections into concrete action, as from now on crises will be part of our lives and decisions must be swift and bold, so that we can shape our life story, under the shelter of the present Constitution within the European space and in the context of a free economy entrenched in this Constitution".

Closing, he highlighted Greece’s response -always and undeviatingly abiding by the current Constitution - to recent years’ consecutive crises, and emphasised the exemplary way of the Parliament’s operation during the unprecedented pandemic period.
