Teleconference with Chairman of Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs K. Gioulekas and his Chinese counterpart Zhang Yesui

The affirmation of the traditionally very good bilateral relations between Greece and China dominated today's online meeting between the Chairman of the National Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament Konstantinos Gioulekas and the Chairman Zhang Yesui and the deputy Chairmen Fu Ying and Zhang Zhijun of the National Defence Committee of the Chinese Parliament.
The Chairman and the members of the Chinese committee presented the results of the 20th National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party (October 2022), during which their country re-established its priorities for the coming years. They expressed their gratitude for the contribution of the Hellenic Parliament in promoting the bilateral parliamentary cooperation between the two countries and stressed that Greece can serve as the bridge of communication between China and the European Union for the promotion of a common positive agenda of cooperation.
Mr Gioulekas spoke about the prospects to further develop the bilateral cooperation at all levels and made reference to the current developments in the South-Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean, underlining that Greece stands firmly against any form of revisionism and is always in favour of dialogue but at the same time, it does not negotiate when it comes to issues of national sovereignty.
During the meeting it was noted that there is great potential for cooperation in all areas, the economy, education and culture. The common stand of Greece and China regarding the respect for the principles of law and the preservation of common peace was also noted.
