Inaugural meeting of European Twinning Project between Hellenic Parliament and National Assembly of Armenia with participation of Italian Parliament
The inaugural meeting of the European Twinning Project between the Hellenic Parliament and the National Assembly of Armenia, with the participation of the Italian Parliament “Strengthening the capacity of the National Assembly of Armenia to further support CEPA oversight and implementation” was held via teleconference.
The project which is being funded by the European Union has a two-year duration and seeks to strengthen the National Assembly of Armenia by providing know-how on parliamentary procedures.
The following participated in the meeting:
1) from the European Commission, the Head of Unit on Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus and the Eastern Partnership of the Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG NEAR), Mr. Vassilis Maragos, the Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Mrs. Andrea Wiktorin, and other members of the EU Delegation in Armenia,
2) the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia was represented by Mr. Arman Yeghoyan, Chairman of the Standing Committee on European Integration and the counterparts of the Working Group,
3) the Hellenic Parliament was represented by Mr. Dimitrios Keridis, MP, 1st Deputy Chair of the Special Permanent Committee on European Affairs, Mr. Dimitrios Markopoulos, MP and Chairman of the Greece – Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group and the Special Secretary of the Parliament, Mr. Vassileios Bagiokos, the Political Coordinator of the Project,
4) from the Italian Parliament, the participants of the inaugural meeting were addressed by Senator Paola Taverna, Vice-President of the Italian Senate, Mr. Piero Fassino, MP and Chairman of the Committee on International and European Affairs of the Italian Chamber of Deputies and Mr. Giovanni Nicola Dionisi, Chargé d'Affaires of the Italian Embassy in Armenia.
The Project Implementation Team also participated, i.e. Mrs. Eleni Kanellopoulou, Project Leader, Mr. Vassileios Svolopoulos, Deputy Project Leader, Mrs. Georgia Makropoulou, Resident Twinning Advisor and Mr. Dimitios Papadimitropoulos, Project Officer.
During the meeting the political commitment of the three parliaments to strengthen the effort to deepen democracy in the country and to promote policies regarding the implementation of CEPA was confirmed.
