Maximos Charakopoulos: "France is a strong ally of our country"

“Laying a wreath at the Arc de Triomphe is a tribute to the joint struggles of our peoples, the Greeks and the French, for defending freedom, human rights and the respect for the dignity of all free people," said the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) Secretary General and Member of the Hellenic Parliament  Dr Maximos Charakopoulos, after laying a wreath at the Arc de Triomphe in Paris as part of the events organised by the Paris Greek Community  for celebratingthe  national anniversary of 28 October1940. 

In his words, "Greece and France have always been on the right side of history; and in World War II, the two countries fought for freedom at a grievous price. Nowadays we are forging further our bonds of friendship, deepening our relationship with our dear friends, the French people. Greece France, Alliance!'"

Maximos Charakopoulos is at the French capital in order to meet UNESCO leading officials, to deliver a dossier of evidence on the destruction wreaked on Hagia Sophia, following its conversion into a mosque by the Turkish administration.​
