Meeting of Greece-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group with Ambassador of Israel in Athens

The Greece-Israel Friendship Group of the Hellenic Parliament met with the Ambassador of Israel in Athens Yossi Amrani on the occasion of the 31st anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Friendship Group Dimitris Kairidis, the Secretary of the Friendship Group Olympia Teligioridou, the Ambassador of Israel in Athens Yossi Amrani and the Diplomatic Advisor of the Parliament Constantine Economides. The Deputy Chair of the Friendship Group Olga Kefalogianni and members of the Friendship Group participated remotely.

During the meeting, Mr. Kairidis referred, inter alia, to the official recognition by the Hellenic Republic of the State of Israel on the 21st of May 1990, under the premiership of Konstantinos Mitsotakis, stressing that it was “the cornerstone and the starting point of an official friendship and a constructive cooperation between the governments and peoples of the two countries”.

In the discussion that followed, many Greek MPs expressed their concern about the escalation of violence in the region and the hope that there will soon be an agreement on a ceasefire. For his part, the Israeli Ambassador explained the difficulties in communication between the Israeli Government and the Palestinian organisation Hamas.

Other issues that were raised were the strategic relations between Greece and Israel in all sectors, especially in the defence and energy sector, as well as in the field of investment, innovation, technological development, tourism and start-ups.
