Meeting of 1st Vice-President of Parliament with Ambassador of Georgia in Athens

The 1st Vice-President of the Parliament Nikitas Kaklamanis met today with the Ambassador of Georgia in Athens David Dondua. The Diplomatic Advisor of the Parliament, Ambassador Constantine Economides attended the meeting.

Mr. Kaklamanis welcomed the Ambassador noting the friendly ties between the two countries which are linked not only due to their respective geopolitical position, but also due to their common religion. He also expressed his readiness, as Chairman of the European Affairs Committee, to provide assistance on issues of cooperation between Georgia and the EU. He proposed the Ambassador submit a request to the Parliament of Georgia for the establishment of a Friendship Group with our country that will initiate a dialogue between our two countries. 

The Ambassador of Georgia expressed his gratitude for the support of the Greek side towards his country’s efforts to join NATO and the European family. He stated that Georgia’s strong political will to further cooperate with the European Union is actively demonstrated by the signing of a cooperation agreement between Georgia, Ukraine and Moldova in order to promote their common goals regarding EU accession. 

Lastly, both sides expressed their commitment to expanding constructive cooperation through further meetings between the Friendship Groups in the near future, if possible physical ones.
