Meeting of Chairman of Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of Hellenic Parliament with Ambassador of India in Athens
The Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament Konstantinos Gioulekas met today with the Ambassador of India in Greece Amrit Lugun.
The Chairman of the Committee referred to the long-standing friendly relations between the two countries, noting at the same time that there is room to further deepen bilateral cooperation on all levels and briefed Mr. Lugun on Greek-Turkish relations, migration policy and the situation in our country regarding the pandemic.
For his part, the Ambassador of India referred to his country’s participation as the honoured country in the 2019 Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), where new foundations were laid for bilateral cooperation and new prospects set, that were, however, temporarily suspended due to the global pandemic crisis. Mr. Lugun stressed that he looks forward to the activation of all agreements after the pandemic and extending them to areas such as education and academic cooperation, renewable energy sources, defence and the armed forces and information technology.
Lastly, the Ambassador of India briefed Mr. Gioulekas on the conclusion of the process at the Parliament of India for the establishment of an India-Greece Friendship Group and extended anew the invitation to Greece to participate, along with 130 other countries, in India’s initiative for an International Solar Alliance (ISA), an alliance which seeks to find solutions and strategies to fight the climate crisis.
