MP Maria Kefala, Deputy Head of the Greek Delegation, participated in the work of the Draft Budget and Auditing Commission of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (PABSEC), which took place today, Friday 17 February 2023, in Istanbul.
In the meeting participated the heads of the delegations of Greece, Moldova, the Republic of North Macedonia, the Secretary General of the PABSEC and the Vice-President in charge of the Assembly's Financial Matters. The financial report for the year 2022 and the draft budget for the year 2024 were, among others, the main topics of discussion.
In her intervention, Mrs Kefala expressed on behalf of the Greek Parliament, her sincere condolences for the thousands of lives lost during the devastating earthquakes in Turkey. She also noted the support of the Greek people to the victims of this tragedy and wished for the earliest possible recovery and restoration of all the affected areas. With regard to the financial issues of the Assembly, she asked for clarifications on specific issues concerning the financial report, as well as the draft budget and expressed her criticism, aiming at reducing expenditures in order to achieve the reduction of the annual contributions of the Member States, an objective that was finally achieved, for the next two years. Concluding her intervention, she stressed the need for a continuous effort to explore ways that will ensure the sound management of the budget, underscoring the enormous responsibility towards the societies and the taxpaying citizens.
