Meeting of the President of the Parliament with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE)

“In the midst of unprecedented circumstances due to the pandemic, we have managed, during the 6-month Greek Presidency of the Council of Europe (CoE), to bridge two opposing notions: confinement and the protection of human rights, armed with technology and our own ingenuity”, stressed the President of the Hellenic Parliament, Mr. Constantine Tassoulas, during his meeting in Parliament with the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the CoE (PACE), Mr. Rik Daems.

Mr. Tassoulas, along with the Head of the Greek delegation to PACE, Mrs Dora Bakoyannis, who also attended the meeting, briefed Mr. Daems on recent developments vis-à-vis the escalating Turkish aggressiveness, underlining the need for Europe to address the Turkish stance as a European problem which is jeopardizing its stability and take the necessary measures.

Mr. Daems visited Greece on the occasion of the 130th Session of the Committee of Ministers of the CoE member states, in the framework of the Greek Presidency of the CoE, as well as on the occasion of the event marking the 70th anniversary of the European Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms that took place in the Hellenic Parliament's Senate Hall, in the presence of the President of the Hellenic Republic, Mrs Katerina Sakellaropoulou.
