Bureau of Greece - Albania Parliamentary Friendship Group meets with Ambassador of Albania in Athens
The Chairman of the Greece - Albania Parliamentary Friendship Group Vassileios Giogiakas, the Deputy Chair Maria - Alexandra Kefala and the member of the group Konstantinos Barkas met today at the Hellenic Parliament with the Ambassador of Albania in Athens Luela Hajdaraga.
During the meeting the good bilateral relations were affirmed as well as the strengthening of cooperation at the political, economic and social level.
Mr. Giogakas referred to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis’ meeting with his Albanian counterpart at the NATO Summit where both countries agreed that they are ready to speed up negotiations for an arbitration agreement to refer the issue of the delimitation of their Maritime Zones to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the Hague, after the elections in Albania.
Among other things, the Chairman of the Friendship Group stressed the protection of the right to self-determination, property and education of the Greek minority in Albania, as it constitutes a “bridge” of friendship and cooperation between the two countries, while the issues concerning Albanian citizens residing in our country are also on a positive path to being resolved.
For her part, Mrs. Hajdaraga thanked Greece for its support for Albania’s EU accession as well as for the assistance provided during the pandemic and the 2019 earthquake.
In closing, the two sides affirmed their intention to strengthen Greek – Albanian relations via a constructive dialogue and mutual respect.
