Meeting of Chair of National Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee with Ambassador of Ireland
The Chair of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Parliament Dora Bakoyannis met with the Ambassador of Ireland to Athens Iseult Fitzgerald.
During the meeting Mrs Bakoyannis noted that Ireland is an importane political and economic partner of Greece and pointed out that the two countries' bilateral economic relations could further develop in various fields of common interest, such as renewable energy sources, technology and tourism. Touching on current affairs, the Chair of the National Defence and Foreign Affairs Committee of the Parliament referred to the most recent developments in Greece-Turkey relations, which have entered a period of calm following the devastating earthquake in Türkiye.
For her part, Mrs Fitzgerald praised the friendly relations between the two peoples and then briefed Mrs Bakoyannis on recent political and economic developments in Ireland, emphasising the wider efforts by the government to attract part of the Irish diaspora, in order to reverse the "brain drain" that Ireland suffered during the financial crisis, through the "Back for Business" programme that boosts entrepreneurship.
