The Greek side raises the need of European framework for refugees and migrants modernization at the Conference of Presidents of the EU Parliaments’ European Affairs Committees

The need to revise the Dublin Regulation, which is outdated as designed to respond to the needs of another era, was raised by the First Vice-President of the Special Standing Committee on European Affairs, Mr Dimitrios Kairidis, at the Conference of the Presidents of the European Affairs Committees of EU Parliaments (COSAC), which took place yesterday and today in the Croatian capital, Zagreb.

Addressing the Prime Minister of Croatia, Mr Andrej Plenković, Mr Kairidis pointed out the need for an EU-level integrated model of legal migration towards the European Union, following the Canadian or Australian model, on basis of specific capabilities or policy options.

Mr Kairidis also raised the question of whether the Geneva Convention for the International Protection of Refugees should be revised accordingly, as banning refoulement, and significantly hampering the protection of maritime external borders, allowing free access to European space to everyone, together with the right to apply for asylum and enjoy protection status for as long as the application is being considered.
