Head of Greek delegation to Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Olga Kefalogianni meets with President of HEDAYAH Centre

In a climate of friendship, strategic cooperation and mutual trust, with the aim of advancing and promoting the common interests of the two sides, a meeting was held in the Hellenic Parliament between the head of the Greek delegation to the IPU Olga Kefalogianni, members of the delegation Stefanos Gikas and Vassilios Giogiakas and the head of the national delegation to IPU and member of the UAE Federal National Council for the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and President of the Hedayah Centre Dr Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi and the members of the UAE Federal National Council Meera Alsuwaidi and Sara Falaknaz, in the presence of the UAE Ambassador in Greece Sulaiman Almazroui.
Welcoming the participants Mrs. Kefalogianni praised the great work, mission and global nature of the Hedayah Centre, responsible for countering violent extremism in all its forms and manifestations, through dialogue, communication, capacity building programmes, research and analysis. She stressed the particularly good relations that have developed between the two sides, at the level of leadership and between the peoples, and underlined the desire for closer parliamentary cooperation within the IPU. Greece, a strong and long-time factor of stability in Europe and the Eastern Mediterranean is building alliances with strong peacekeeping powers, such as the UAE, always on the basis of International Law and the Law of the Sea. Summing up, she assured participants that the Greek delegation to the IPU remains an ardent supporter of developing parliamentary dialogue, in the spirit of serving the common values for the prosperity of the two peoples.
Mr. Gikas stressed the traditional, substantive and strategic cooperation between the UAE and Greece and referred to the “Mutual Defence Clause” between the two sides. This clause enhances security and territorial integrity and constitutes a significant deepening in the relations between Greece and the UAE.
The representatives of the UAE underlined the global reach of Greek culture and sent a message of “tolerance for diversity”, peace and respect for universal values, which we must keep alive and always in sight. They referred to the bilateral political, economic, commercial, defence, education and culture policies that have been developed in an excellent manner between the two sides and confirmed the willingness to cooperate and mutually support candidacies in international organisations.
The meeting takes place at a time when the bilateral strategic relations between the two sides are strengthened and dynamically expanded to a plethora of sectors and when common views vis-à-vis developments in the wider region are being cemented.
