Demographic challenges at centre of Council of Europe Committee meeting hosted at Hellenic Parliament

The proceedings of the Committee on Social Affairs, Health and Sustainable Development of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) commenced today in the Senate Chamber of the Hellenic Parliament.
During this first day, attention was focused on the demographic issue and the presentation of the relevant report by the rapporteur, Member of Parliament and PACE member Mr Georgios Stamatis, titled: "Towards a family-friendly Europe: policy recommendations for demographic renewal". Statements on the matter were delivered by the Minister of Labour and Social Security, Ms Niki Kerameus, the Minister of Social Cohesion and Family, Ms Domna Michailidou, Mr Stelios Maridakis, Mr Vasileios Tarlatzis, and Ms Alexandra Tragaki.
The Chair of the Special Permanent Committee on Environmental Protection of the Hellenic Parliament, Dr Dionysia-Theodora Avgerinopoulou, also delivered a speech on issues such as access to water and the proper management of water resources.
