Joint meeting of National Defence-Foreign Affairs Committees of Hellenic Parliament and Chamber of Deputies of Luxembourg

An online meeting was held on the initiative of the Chairman of the Standing Committee on National Defence and Foreign Affairs of the Hellenic Parliament Konstantinos Gioulekas, with the Committee on Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, Cooperation, Immigration and Asylum, National Security and Defence of the Chamber of Deputies of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The discussion focused on the latest developments in the South-Eastern Mediterranean and the Aegean Sea with the Greek MPs making specific reference to the ongoing aggressive behaviour of the Turkish leadership towards Greece and Cyprus.
In his intervention Mr Gioulekas analysed the complete framework of the Greek-Turkish relations and focused on the constant threats that Greece is facing from the Turkish side, against its national sovereignty and territorial integrity. "The answer to all this, from the Greek side, is that we pursue a dialogue and we strive and work for peace, but in any event, we increase the strength of our country through treaties, through alliances, through informing the international community, as we are doing in our meeting today," Mr Gioulekas stressed.
The MPs of Luxembourg referred to the excellent bilateral relations and asked for an account of the problems in the South-Eastern Mediterranean and the Turkish position, while they also exchanged views with their Greek counterparts on migration and the repercussions of the war in Ukraine, both in the European Union and in NATO.
At the meeting, from the Hellenic Parliament the following members of the Committee took the floor: The former President of the Parliament Nikolaos Voutsis, Ioannis Amanatidis (SYRIZA), Nikolaos Manolakos (New Democracy), Andreas Loverdos (PASOK/MOVEMENT FOR CHANGE), Antonios Mylonakis (ELLINIKI LYSI/GREEK SOLUTION) and Sofia Sakorafa (MeRA25).
