President of Parliament meets with Vice Premier of National People's Congress of People's Republic of China

The President of the Parliament Constantine Tassoulas welcomed today in a courtesy meeting at the Hellenic Parliament, the Vice Premier of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China Sun Chunlan. 

The President of the Parliament pointed out that the visit by the Vice Premier of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China will contribute in a very positive manner to the continuation of the mutually beneficial cooperation which Athens seeks with Beijing. 

Mr Tassoulas and Mrs Sun exchanges views on matters of bilateral and international interest and on ways to further strengthen parliamentary cooperation, especially through the respective Friendship Groups.

The President of the Parliament congratulated the Vice Premier of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China for the Chinese side's contribution to the operation of the Centre for Ancient Greek and Chinese Culture, which is being inaugurated today in the main building of the University of Athens. Both underlined that culture is an important aspect of relations between the two countries, which is to be expected of two peoples with a history dating back centuries and a multifaceted contribution to culture at a global level.

Mr Tassoulas and Mrs Sun Chunlan both agreed that the Chinese investment by COSCO Shipping opens a successful example of cooperation with mutual benefits.

Finally, the Vice Premier of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China informed the President of the Parliament on recent developents regarding the pandemic in China.

Mrs Sun Chunlan was accompanied at the meeting by the Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng, the Sports Minister Gao Zhidan, the Ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Greece Xiao Junzheng, the Deputy Secretary General of the National People's Congress Meng Yang and the Deputy Health Minister Cao Xuetao. 

From the Greek side, present at the meeting were the Secretary General of the Parliament George Mylonakis and the Diplomatic Advisor to the President of the Parliament, Ambassador Constantine Economidis.
