Conference on 75th anniversary of Universal Declaration of Human Rights

A conference on the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights was organised on 29 November in Brussels, at the initiative of the Subcommittee on Humna Rights (DROI) of the European Parliament, with the participation of national parliaments. 

The Hellenic Parliament was represented by MP and Chair of the Special Permanent Committee on Equality, Youth and Human Rights Maria Antoniou and MP and member of the Committee Ioannis Sarakiotis.

European Parliament Presidnet Roberta Metsola opened the Conference, followed by keynote speeches from the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk and the Commissioner for Internationa Partnership Jutte Urpilainen. 

 The Conference brought together representatives from international and regional human rights organisations, members of national parliaments from EU members states, international and local civil society organisations, Nobel laureates, new voices from around the world, as well as MEPs and Chairpersons from EP Committees, who discussed the two themes on tackling the challenges in the field of human rights.
