WHIA-PADEE Governing Board visits Athens

The regular meeting of the World Hellenic Inter-parliamentary Association (WHIA) Board of Directors, chaired by its President, US State Senator of Rhode Island Leonidas Raptakis, which took place from 16 to 19 July in Athens, was concluded today. The World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association is an inter-parliamentary organisation of the Greek diaspora bringing together legislators of Greek origin residing in foreign countries around the world. In the framworke of their visit, the WHIA delegation held official meetings with Prime Minister Mitsotakis, in the presence of the Secretary General for Hellenism Abroad and Public Diplomacy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs I. Chrysoulakis, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs in charge of Greek Diaspora affairs, An. Katsaniotis, the Minister of Development and Investments Ad. Georgiadis, and the Secretary General of the Inter-parliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy and Head of the Hellenic Parliament Delegation to the IAO M. Harakopoulos.

Prime Minister Mitsotakis praised WHIA initiatives and activities, aiming  to promote the modern image of our country worldwide, encourage Diaspora and Homeland ties, advance Greece's position on the international stage, promote Greek history and culture and, above all, raise awareness and promote national positions, in cooperation with the Greek State and the Hellenic Parliament.

WHIA delegation members visited the island of Lemnos, and will also visit Kastellorizo, Rhodes and Samos, in order to have contacts and discussions with local authorities on a number of important subjects of Greek concern, such as issues related to Greek-Turkish relations, the migration-refugee issue, tourism etc.
