Meeting of Chairpersons and Rapporteurs of Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy Committees
The meeting of the International Secretariat of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly in Orthodoxy (IAO), as well as of the Chairpersons and Rapporteurs of the Assembly’s Committees was held in Belgrade from 13 to 16 June. The Greek side was represented by MPs Maximos Charakopoulos, Head of the Greek delegation and IAO Secretary General, Athanasios Davakis, Stavros Keletsis, IAO Treasurer, and Ioannis Sarakiotis.
During the meeting of the IAO International Secretariat it was decided to hold the 28th IAO General Assembly in Crete from 22 to 25 July 2021 on the theme: “The future of the world, the future of Europe after the pandemic”.
At the initiative of the Greek delegation the members of the IAO International Secretariat visited the monument to Rigas Feraios where they laid a wreath in his memory on the occasion of the 200th anniversary since the Greek Revolution.
At the initiative of the Russian delegation the members of the IAO visited the monument to the liberators of Belgrade in WWII where they laid a wreath to commemorate the fallen.
Finally, an IAO International Secretariat delegation visited the Belgrade Institute of Byzantine Studies of the Academy of Sciences as well as the School of Theology of the University of Belgrade where they briefed the academics on IAO activities and discussed proposals for cooperation.
