President of Parliament participates in inaugural event launching Conference on the Future of Europe

The President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas participated in the inaugural event of the European Parliament to launch the Conference on the Future of Europe. The event took place in the European Parliament in Strasbourg on Europe Day and marked the beginning of the participatory process of the Conference, co-organised by the European Parliament, Council and Commission. 

In addition to the President of the Hellenic Parliament, the Speaker of the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Malta, the President of the Senate of the Dutch Parliament, the Chairperson of the Senate of the Irish Parliament, the President of the Belgian Chamber of Representatives and of the Senate, the President of the German Bundesrat, the Marshal of the Sejm and of the Polish Senate, the President of the Austrian Federal Council and the Vice-Presidents of the Portuguese Parliament, the Spanish Parliament and the Lithuanian Parliament also attended the event. 

A welcome speech was delivered by the President of the French Republic Emmanuel Macron, followed by speeches by the heads of the EU institutions on how they envision Europe in the future. Ministers for European Affairs, MEPs and MPs of the member states, as well as other prominent figures, participated remotely. 

Erasmus students from all over the EU were present in the hall of the  European parliament along with members of the Conference’s Executive Committee, who answered citizens’ questions, while ca. 500 citizens participated in the event remotely.
