President of Hellenic Parliament meets with new Board of Directors of World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association

The President of the Hellenic Parliament Constantine Tassoulas described the work of the 13th General Assembly of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association as particularly productive and successful as he welcomed today in his office the members of the new Board of Directors that emerged from yesterday’s elections.

“The Hellenic Parliament which firmly supports the work of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association, congratulates you on your election and will continue to stand by your side to help you fulfill your national and social goals” Mr. Tassoulas said emphatically.

The President of the Parliament made the following statement:

“The 13th General Assembly of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association completes its work in a productive and successful way. The election of the new Board of Directors is one of the successful outcomes of this General Assembly. I congratulate you on your election and I thank you for the Assembly’s fruitful work, but also for your election, because you receive the baton of a national and deeply interesting mission as far as the interests of Hellenism are concerned.

Having followed your work, I am certain that you will pass on the baton, after two years, having made your contribution to the improvement of all issues that concern our country, the whole range of issues you address, and I am certain that things will be much better for Greece and Hellenism. A very interesting General Assembly is in progress, while at the same time you are also meeting with state officials.

In the Senate Hall of the Hellenic Parliament, during this General Assembly, interesting speeches are being delivered and a rich exchange of views is taking place. The Assembly is dedicated to the two centuries since the outbreak of the Revolution of 1821, signalling the birth of the modern Greek state.

More than ready and full of ambition, you take the baton to fulfill your goals from your new homelands, which have embraced you and which you serve through public office so effectively.

The Hellenic Parliament which firmly supports the work of the World Hellenic Inter-Parliamentary Association, congratulates you on your election and will continue to stand by your side to help you fulfill your national and social goals. Please convey to everyone the congratulations of the Hellenic Parliament for your productive work and our wishes for a good outcome in your mission”.

The President of the Board of Directors, Rhode Island State Senator (US) Leonidas Raptakis, for his part, stated the following: “The Board of Directors and the members of the WHIA thank you warmly for your support of our work, you personally and the Hellenic Parliament. We have a new Board of Directors as of yesterday’s election. 5 women and 4 men were elected. For the first time there are more women than men on the Board of Directors. During our 2-year term we will support all Greece and Cyprus issues. Despite the difficulties of the coronavirus pandemic, we do not forget all the other issues. Even though we are elected in different parts of the world, our roots are Greek and we are here to work very hard for Hellenism, for Greece and for Cyprus.”

The following members of the diaspora from the new WHIA Board of Directors attended the meeting with the President of the Parliament: Leonidas Raptakis, President, Rhode Island State Senator (US), Stephan Pappas, Treasurer, Wyoming State Senator (US), Emmanuella Lambropoulos, MP, Riding, Saint-Laurent (Canada), Marietta Karamanli, MP (France), Evangelos Doules, MP, Tirana District (Albania), Maria Tzanakis-Collett, Pennsylvania State Senator (US).

The following were also elected: Effie Triantafilopoulos, 1st WHIA Vice-President, Member of Provincial Parliament, Ontario (Canada), Steve Georganas, 2nd WHIA Vice-President, Federal Member for Adelaide (Australia). Four alternate members were also elected: Nicole Klarides-Ditria (US), John Spiros (US), Leonidas Stavrianakis (US), Annie Koutrakis (Canada).
